Carrie Myers, Pianist

CarrieMyersPortraitCarrie Myers is a native of small town Rushsylvania, OH but has been a Concord, NC resident since 2000.  Oddly enough she still misses snow…..

Carrie began piano study at the age of 6 and continued, mostly uninterrupted, until high school graduation.  In the meantime she played trombone (after one dismal lesson on the clarinet) and learned the 3 guitar chords necessary to sing any folk song from the 60s!  She went off to college hoping to become a choral director but instead listened to her parents to “do something in the sciences.”  She graduated from Ohio State with a BS in nursing and an MSN in 1981.  Her professional career was spent in critical care, nursing education and paramedic education.  She retired from nursing in 2004 and worked the next five years with the Cabarrus Arts Council as their events and volunteer coordinator….”Way cool and really fun!”

Music has continually been an active part of her life.  “There has always been a great Presbyterian choir wherever I lived that welcomed a chatty alto!”  She currently is a member of the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir in Concord.

A member of community theatre in Ohio, in Concord she helped found the Cabarrus Playmakers that produced an annual musical theatre production with area high schools. When the empty nest blues hit she decided to return to her piano roots and now plays locally as a solo pianist. Having heard the Salisbury Swing Band for several years she is thrilled to be a part of the group.

Her husband Earl, an ED physician at CMC-Northeast has indulged her music ‘bug’ their entire married life and children, Jordan and Meredith, are paving their own artistic paths. Carrie can be seen everyday walking her Beagle, Magnolia Grace, in Dorton Park in Concord. It comes as no surprise to those who know Carrie that her Beagle sings.  They rehearse most mornings at 9.
